D4988595 (also known as 4988595) is an electronic high-pressure common rail fuel injection pump for Cummins engines, manufactured by Bosch for ISDe, ISF3.8 and other series. As the core component of the fuel system, it pressurizes low-pressure diesel to over 1600 bar, precisely controls fuel injection quantity and timing via ECU, ensuring engine power, fuel efficiency and emission performance.

Common Faults & Troubleshooting
1. No Start / Hard Start
Causes：Air in fuel system, clogged filter, stuck metering unit, plunger wear.
Symptoms：Cranks but won’t start, no or white smoke from exhaust.
Solution：Bleed air, replace fuel filter; check inlet line seals; test metering unit resistance (10-15Ω); replace pump if pressure <1500bar.
2. Low Power / Poor Acceleration
Causes：Internal leakage, plunger wear, high-pressure relief, ECU torque limit.
Symptoms：Lack of power, slow acceleration, high fuel consumption, black smoke.
Solution：Read codes with Cummins INSITE; test rail pressure; check relief valve; replace pump for internal wear.
3. Rough Idle / Surging
Causes：Metering unit failure, pressure fluctuation, injector leakage.
Symptoms：Idle vibration, unstable RPM, stalling.
Solution：Clean/replace metering unit; check pump bearings/gear lash; inspect injectors.
4. Fuel Leakage
Causes：Worn seals, loose fittings, cracked housing.
Symptoms：Oil seepage/dripping, diesel smell around pump.
Solution：Replace all seals; tighten fittings; replace pump for cracked body.
5. Abnormal Noise (“Ticking” from Gear Housing)
Causes：Drive gear wear, bearing damage, internal plunger seizure.
Symptoms：Audible noise on acceleration, increases with RPM.
